Chemical Peels in Calgary

What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical Peels Calgary, AB

A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to remove dead skin cells from the top layer of skin. During the peeling process, the dead and damaged skin cells are removed, revealing the fresh, new skin underneath. This type of deep exfoliation can stimulate cellular turnover, resulting in the production of healthy, glowing skin. There are many different types of chemical peels in Calgary that range from no physical peeling or downtime to more significant peeling. Depending on your skin type and concerns, a specific chemical peel may be recommended.

For maximum results, we recommend a series of three or more chemical peels, spaced three to six weeks apart. The benefit of receiving a series of peels is that this treatment will be able to target the deeper layers of the epidermis, giving your skin an enhanced exfoliation.

Glycolic Acid Chemical Peel

This is a gentle, superficial peel that targets the damaged layers on the surface and does not penetrate into healthy tissue. Similar to the process of a Zamboni, a thin layer of a fruit acid is applied to the skin and left in place for 2-3 minutes and then washed off leaving smoother, healthier skin. Mild tingling occurs when the chemical is applied, but no visible peeling actually occurs.

Renew 30 Peel

Also known as the ‘Red Carpet Glow’, this peel is a great introduction to other cosmetic procedures or for an immediate effect of bright and radiant skin.

Silk Peel Dermalinfusion

Similar to the process of a steam cleaner, this peel uses a diamond encrusted tip to administer the fading solution followed by a vacuum suction to remove the excess solution and damaged tissue. Through this combination or chemical and mechanical exfoliation, if effectively removes the superficial layers of dead and damaged tissue.

Jessner Plus Peel

The Jessner peel is a 3-component mixture of lactic acid, salicyclic acid and resorcinol. This is medium depth peel that removes the superficial layers of skin along with a small amount of healthy skin below. The lactic acid has the unique ability to bind, retain and evenly distribute and penetrate moisture into the deep layers of the skin. It also stimulates collagen production, which makes the skin elastic and firm. Salicyclic acid has a drying effect which can reduce excess oil production and reduce pore size, in addition to an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect which increases the process of replacing dead and damaged skin cells. Resorcinol intensifies the actions of the other products and through its antibacterial processes, assists in lightening the skin and removing fine lines and wrinkles. For those patient who struggle with acne, this peel would be most beneficial. As this is a medium depth chemical peel, some mild to moderate peeling may occur 2-3 days following the application.

Glow Peel

Also known as the ‘Half Jessner’, this peel uses a combination of Lactic acid, Resorcinol, and Salicylic Acid to help reduce the appearance of large pores, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, and redness. For best results, we recommend 6 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart. Results and downtime may vary and are best maintained with a customized skin care regime and annual maintenance treatments.

TCA Chemical Peel

Skin Peels Calgary, AB

Tciholoacetic acid (TCA) is a medium depth peeling agent used primarily to treat actinic keratosis (precancerous lesions) that appear on the face and scalp. However, we have also had good success in treating generalized sun damage on the face, upper chest and décolletage. As it is applied to the surface of the skin, it penetrates through the superficial and deeper layers of skin, effectively targeting both visible lesions and underlying sun damage. Rather than focusing on individual lesions, it uses a “zone” approach, treating the entire damaged areas. Although it is somewhat painful, the application only takes a few minutes, and the pain quickly subsides. The skin will remain quite red and there may be significant swelling for the first 2-3 days. Over the next 7-10 days, the superficial dead and damaged skin cells will peel, resulting in healthier skin and an overall improvement to the appearance of the skin. For extensive actinic damage, maintenance treatments may be recommended every 6-18 months

TCA Peel with SP Dynamis Fotona Laser Spot Resurfacing

This new Erbium Yag 2940nm Laser has the ability to effectively remove thickened lesions that cannot be sloughed off with the peel alone. The entire face and/or scalp is first treated with the procedure listed above, treating the superficial and underlying lesions. Immediately following, hypertrophic (thickened or enlarged) cells are flattened out in a systematic process with the laser. Multiple passes may be required until all the thickened areas are removed. The advantage is the skin is smooth when you leave the office, before the peeling has even started. Treatment can usually be completed without the use of any anesthetic and healing time is about 7-10 days.

SP Dynamis Fotona Full Face Laser Resurfacing

Rather than using a chemical peeling agent to remove the damaged layers, the laser can effectively remove layers of skin cells in a very systematic and controlled fashion. With this new laser technology, we have the ability to control the depth and layers of skin that we remove. Following the full face laser treatment, thicker, stubborn areas will be “spot treated” with the procedure method listed above. Removing multiple layers of damaged skin results in healthier skin, with the added benefit of a cosmetic improvement. Topical numbing cream and/or oral sedation will be required for this treatment. Healing time is usually about 10-14 days.
