Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in your body. Its primary role is breaking down and absorbing dietary fat. When we administer the acid through injection, it targets and disrupts fat cell membranes, preventing fat from being stored or building up. This means retreatment is typically unnecessary once we’ve achieved your desired results.

What Can You Expect During Your Treatment?

The first step of your treatment process is a consultation. We’ll discuss your goals, examine your neck, and determine if you’re a good candidate for this treatment.

Before administering the acid, the skin is marked to guide injections. Your physician will strategically mark the skin to prepare the injection sites. Typically, 20-30 injection sites are necessary to provide comprehensive coverage of the entire area. Finally, small amounts of deoxycholic acid are injected into the subcutaneous fat beneath the chin.

Recovery After Your Jawline Sculpting Treatment

After your procedure, you might experience some swelling, bruising, or discomfort. The most noticeable swelling usually goes away within 5–14 days, but smaller areas of swelling can take as long as 4–6 weeks to resolve.

If you plan on being socially active within the first 48–72 hours, you may consider wearing a scarf or turtleneck to cover the treated area. Any bruising generally fades within 5–7 days.

How Many Treatments Do You Need?

The broken-down fatty tissue is naturally and gradually eliminated from your body over the few weeks following treatment. Some patients see noticeable improvements in their chin profile in just 2–4 treatments. However, we may recommend 3–6 sessions to help achieve your desired results.

The number of treatments needed can vary depending on the amount of fat in the area. We typically schedule sessions every 4–6 weeks.
