How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal can target the root cause of hair growth–literally. The laser emits light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle or root, which is converted into heat energy. This energy then damages the root, resulting in a delay or prevention of regrowth.

Preparing for Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Before your treatment, there are a few simple steps to follow.

Protect your skin by avoiding sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment and 2 weeks after your treatment.
You can shave, but don’t wax or pluck about 4 weeks before your session, as the laser needs to travel down the hair follicle to reach the root.
You’re welcome to take a pain reliever before your appointment. During your treatment, you’ll feel a slight sensation like a rubber band snap, but discomfort is typically minimal.

How Long Do Hair Removal Results Last?

One of the most common questions we get asked is, “How long will my results last?” While individual experiences can vary, many patients enjoy results that can last months or years after completing their recommended treatment plan. Laser hair removal offers permanent hair reduction, and it’s common for any new hair growth to be thinner or lighter in colour.
