At Remington Laser Dermatology Centre, we have committed ourselves to providing patients in the Calgary, AB area with general, cosmetic, and medical dermatology solutions for common skin and body concerns. When patients are dealing with certain conditions, they may benefit from vascular treatments. Our practice is pleased to provide options for patients who are ready to combat specific concerns that are impacting their appearance.

What conditions can be addressed with vascular treatments?

Drs. Todd and Kent Remington offer solutions for patients dealing with the following skin concerns:

  • Telangiectasias (face or nose vessels)
  • Hemangiomas
  • Venous lakes
  • Lip hemangiomas
  • Periorbital blue veins
  • Port wine stain birthmarks

With the use of today’s amazing technology, our doctors can help patients address these concerns quickly and affordably. Results may be achieved with the use of laser devices or IPL treatments that can penetrate deep into the skin and reduce appearance and discoloration caused by these concerns.

Can these conditions be treated with medications?

Oral and topical medications can be used for many skin conditions. Unfortunately, vascular conditions such as blood vessels and birthmarks are often not responsive to any medications available on the market today. Instead, these conditions respond best to laser and IPL therapies that achieve amazing, noticeable results in a short period of time. With a proper evaluation, our team can decide the treatment best suited for an individual.

Which treatment is right for me?

Most vascular treatments available in our office can be used for a majority of our patients. However, the best way to decide if an individual will benefit from vascular treatments is to provide them with a thorough evaluation and obtain a proper diagnosis. Only then can our team make recommendations for an individual based on their condition, the severity, and the financial means of the individual.

While it’s not uncommon to sweat after extensive exercise or time spent outdoors on a hot day, it is a concern when sweating occurs all the time. This may be a sign of a condition known as hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, can be an embarrassing condition for men and women. The condition can cause patients to feel self-conscious about sweating in certain social situations. This condition can also cause patients to regularly stain their clothes and reconsider wearing specific colored clothing that may show sweat easier than others. However, hyperhidrosis does not have to negatively impact your life! With treatment at Remington Laser Dermatology Centre, patients have options available to them to consider.

How is hyperhidrosis treated?

At Remington Laser Dermatology Centre, we are pleased to offer an affordable and reliable option through injections of Botox. While most patients think of Botox as an anti-aging solution, it can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is caused by overactive sweat glands. When Botox, a neuromodulator, is injected into these areas, it can reduce the chemical messenger known as acetylcholine, which causes the stimulation of sweat glands. When the stimulation from the chemical messenger is not received, the sweat will not occur.

How long will treatment last?

Botox is not a permanent solution to hyperhidrosis in the same was as surgical intervention can be. Instead, Botox provides a temporary option that will last several months. To maintain the results, patients will need to visit Remington Laser Dermatology Centre on a regular basis to have injections completed. With routine injections, most patients can keep their hyperhidrosis under control and live their life without the embarrassment of sweat stains!

Is Botox right for me?

The best way to determine if Botox injections can help you with your condition is to schedule a consultation and initial evaluation with our team. With a proper diagnosis and evaluation, our doctors can make the best recommendations for patients.
