Acne is one of those issues that seems to stick around for way too long. Stubborn acne that lasts through your twenties and thirties can bring up all sorts of issues, but one of the biggest we’ve found is worries about being in a swimsuit.
If you’re worried about wearing a swimsuit in front of friends and family, it’s time to chat. This hot summer should be enjoyed by a pool or on a beach, not hidden away inside. Keep reading to learn about ways you can treat those leftover acne scars and get back into fun summer mode.
Heal Your Acne
While it might seem easier said than done, healing your acne will help you avoid new scarring. So, while it’s not necessary, it is preferable that your acne is under control before you go down the road of healing your scars.
When it comes to acne and bacne, you need to know when you’re helping and when you’re causing more harm. Our recommendation is try switching up products (you never know if that old face wash has been helping your skin break out all this time), and be deliberate about healing your skin. Try a more gentle, minimal skincare regime; drink lots of water; and consider adding more vitamin-rich foods that your skin needs into your diet.
Banish Scars
Resurfacing treatments can help minimize signs of acne scars on the face or body. It’s important to be realistic and, since every situation is different, to discuss what to expect with your provider.
During laser skin resurfacing, a laser is used to remove top layers of the skin, revealing more youthful skin underneath. The most damaged, scarred layers are removed, which can help minimize signs of scarring, especially if you opt for multiple treatments.
Keep in mind that deep pitted scarring is difficult to remove completely, so those scars may remain as a less noticeable scar. If you have mild pitted scarring, consider asking about our M22 ResurFX laser. If you have red scarring then Vascular/IPL Laser Treatments might be better for you. Remember to inform your provider of any treatments you’ve had recently and if you’ve used Accutane within the last year before you have your treatment.
